Alloys / 6082-T6
6082-T6 Aluminum
The alloy a European or UK shop stocks where a US drawing calls for 6061. Close enough to substitute on most machined parts.
What it is
6000 series, aluminum-magnesium-silicon-manganese. T6: solution heat treated then artificially aged. Same heat treat logic as 6061.
Machining
Slightly tougher to cut than 6061 because of its higher manganese content, which refines the grain. The difference shows up as marginally slower feeds, not a different process.
Finishing and joining
Anodizes well, though not always with the exact shade 6061 produces in the same tank. Welds cleanly and holds up outdoors.

Questions
Is 6082-T6 weldable?
Yes, 6082-T6 welds without special difficulty. It is one of the more forgiving alloys on this list to join.
Does 6082-T6 anodize evenly?
Yes, it takes a Type II or Type III anodize evenly, in clear or colour, and is a safe choice for a visible cosmetic part.
